EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.4.2 - Friday, February 3
- Hey Fellas, Have You Heard the News?
- If you haven’t, that’s what the Design Notes are for! The Frysteland Arc is coming to a close- and I’ll thank all of you a billion times for making EpicDuel’s first in-game War a success! Now, though, we’re moving on to the next arc, the Heartbreaker Saga. This will be a month-long story arc, and arguably the darkest thing I have ever written for EpicDuel, so I’m excited. Are you excited?
- Dream Maker
- This week marks the release of another Player Suggestion Shop. Once Nightwraith has them all drawn, I’ll post the names of all the players whose dreams have come true by having a design in EpicDuel. Nightwraith promised to draw until his hands are withered claws, so we should have a hefty amount of items for all classes.
Remember, all players whose designs are implemented in game will receive their item (regardless of price, level, or item type), as well as the Epic Artist Achievement!

- Epic Artists
- The results are in! The following is a list of contributors to this suggestion shop. This was one of the best batches yet so keep up the good work!
Despair - VectosAE Rust Runeblade - Shasonic1 Hero's Heart Broadsword - Reki Hero's Heart Set - Reki Crysaliss - Reki Dragon's Breath - Reki Hazard Blaster - Reki Caterpillar Bugzooka - vypie Dark Varium Blaster - vypie Surgical Slicers - vypie Toxic Chompers - vypie Energy Steering Device - vypie Golden Draconic Axe - Ganzdemon Spirit Scythe - theraplawyers Spirit Pike - theraplawyers
If your suggestion didn't make it in this time, take this as an opportunity to improve and submit new designs for future suggestions shops. It's also possible that we really liked your idea, but didn't have time to include it in this release. Eithery way, the next suggestion shop can't come soon enough!

- Lost and Found!
- Ever wonder what’s the best weapon for your level, or wonder where your opponent got that cool item? Just ask the Finderbot! The Finderbot is programmed with statistics on all of the items in EpicDuel, and he’s sorted them by level and type, with numerous filter options, so you’ll be able to find the gear you need much faster!
- Preview Missions
- I’m still writing the first missions that will introduce the Heartbreaker Arc, but I can tell you that you’ll need to start out in Old Fortune City to receive your first orders from the Exile Soldier and Exile Leader. Watch my Twitter for more info about where to go for story missions this week!
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.4.1f - Friday, January 27
- This is the End, Beautiful Friend...
- The end of the Frysteland saga, that is! Remember that your actions determined the outcome of the War for Frysteland, and influenced the storyline as a whole.
- Traitors
- I would like to confirm that an individual cannot have both the Legion Bane achievement and the Krampus Slayer achievement. Players who switched alignment to earn both achievements will lose the second achievement earned. So, if you killed 100 Krampus for the Krampus Slayer achievement, then switched to Exile to kill 100 Yeti and get the Legion Bane achievement, you would only get to keep the Krampus Slayer achievement.
- This situation showed us that we need to overhaul the war system for the next epic war event to encourage loyalty, and punish treason more severely.
- Broken Hearts
- Following the Frysteland arc, we will be starting with the next EpicDuel story arc. As Alydriah was distracted by the conflict in Frysteland, the Exiles in Old Fortune City seized this opportunity to plan a counterattack at the Heart of Alydriah’s operations. Not much more I can tell you right now, except that this arc won’t hold back- it’s the darkest thing written for EpicDuel so far; I hope you are prepared for it!
- With this story arc, we’ll be implementing a NEW Promotional pack to replace the Frost Destroyers. This promo which will be going live early Friday will include Azrael's Borg and Azrael's Curse. The Azrael's Borg is a robotic wasp does that physical damage, and has the special ability to sting your enemy with it's unblockable serrated tail and deliver a Heart Attack! Well, technically it's not a real heart attack, but it does drastically reduce the effectiveness of any applied buffs on your opponent. It also has a physical primary attack in which it uses it's razor-sharp heart blades to give your opponents more than a broken heart!
- The second part of the promo is the awesome mutating weapon, Azrael's Curse! This potent physical weapon forged as a warped marriage of technology and magic carries the Mark of Azrael, which offers a +5% chance to crit!
- The Heartbreaker weapons will also be returning, and you can buy them from Alydriah’s Heartbreaker Bot in her Fortune City Spire or from Exile Leader in Old Fortune City.
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.4.1e - Friday, January 13
- Frysteland the 13th
- Hi there, Epic Duelists, it’s nearly Friday the 13th, the time of year when the AE MMOs have special visits from mustachioed gentlemen. Usually of the top hat wearing variety. But just because we don’t have a Big Musical Guest and our newest Mustachioed Gentleman , doesn’t mean that our players have to be unfortunate this Friday the 13th.
- Balance Changes
- We’ve implemented a new system that allows us to to track how changes we make affect overall balance on the live servers- we call it "The Balance Tracker". Obviously the Creative Team did not come up with that name. What this means for you is that we’ll be able to track who's beating who at each level, which will show empirically which class is "superior" at each level. This will give us easy to read data we can use to make adjustments to class balance a lot quicker and improve balance in modes like 2v2 or Juggernaut which are difficult to balance on the developer server. The longer this system runs, the more data we'll receive, the better decisions regarding balance we'll be able to make.
- We are also making an adjustment to Hybrid Armor - many players have complained that the skill is useless since in order to reap the full benefit of the skill, players must waste a turn switching armor type. Hybrid Armor will now passively endow both defense and resistance, with the defensive skill split between the two. For example, if your Hybrid Armor gave you +12 defense OR resistance at level 33, it will now give you +6 defense AND +6 resistance! This is intended to be neither a buff nor a nerf, but simply an adjustment to how the skill works.
- Like a Boss
- Players will now be able to challenge the new War Bosses, King Alaric and Commander Edgar Boothe. For this release, you will be limited by alignment for challenge purposes, and both Alydriah and Aldhagrimm will have a special alignment-specific mission for you involving these Juggernauts.
- Both Boothe and Alaric are 2v1 Bosses, so you’ll have to team up with an ally to defeat them. Both you and your ally must belong to the same alignment at this time. During the Aftermath and forward, players will be able to challenge Boothe and Alaric regardless of alignment. Defeating either one of them will reward you with 200 War Points, plus a chance to receive a bomb or perfect gem!
- Speaking of achievements, we’ve had an issue with players switching sides to get both the "Krampus Slayer" and "Legion Bane" achievements, leading to some players believing we were rewarding disloyalty and punishing founders of long-standing factions. I can assure you that this was never the intent- we’d intended to give each side a unique experience in the Conflict for Frysteland. To reinforce the concept of alignment loyalty, we are considering a couple options, including removing one achievement or merging the two achievements in question into one “disachievement” worth 0 rating points and marking that player as a traitor.
- We don’t want to simply punish turncoats, and we do wish to reward the players who have remained loyal to their alignment and factions. We’re still figuring out the best way to go about that now and going forward for future events in which each alignment offers a unique experience.
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.4.1c/d - Friday, January 6
- Frysteland Final Phase
- EpicDuel’s first war is approaching the final stretch, and your allies will need everyone pulling together to assure victory! I know you guys have all been working diligently- as of the writing of these design notes, over 15,000 unique characters have competed in the Frysteland War! There have been real-life wars with fewer participants! You guys have all done a magnificent job, so regardless of which side prevails, you all deserve to be commended for your efforts!
- However, the war is not quite over. To bring that final push, we’ll be releasing the long-promised missions, along with the War Bosses, Commander Edgar Boothe fighting for the Legion, and King Alaric fighting for the Krampus! Could this final phase turn the tide? Only one way to find out!
- King Alaric the Technologically Inept is a fair and just warrior-king. Known as the Child-King, Alaric rose to power during the Uprising at the age of 15, following his father Callan the Decent’s death during the Haze of Iwona. Under the tutelage of his great-aunt Aldhagrimm the Erudite, he’s grown to follow in the footsteps of his grandmother, the great King Andra the Merciful, who was murdered by Baelius.
- We’re coming down to the wire here, people! If you’re Exile, don’t let those yetis down! If you are Legion, do not disappoint your leader!
- There, I fixed it!
- We’ve received a few complaints about blue stars not showing up on character pages, and we’ll be fixing that as soon as possible! We’ll also be fixing the issues of duplicate achievements, and war achievements not updating correctly.
- Balance Update!
- TLM - Replace Maul with Stun Grenade
- Keeps stun skill; removes easy, low cost damage skill
- TLM - Replace Hybrid Armor with Mineral Armor (New skill - passively gives physical defense)
- Reduces inherent tankiness of TLM
- TLM - Replace Technician with Blood Shield
- Reduces ability to be more tanky + increase damage output + heal
- CH - Replace Technician with Plasma Armor (passively gives energy resistance)
- Gives them a reliable passive with better defensive options
- Bunker Buster/Plasma Cannon
- Weaker at lower levels, stronger scaling for high levels
- BM - Replace Technician with Energy Shield
- Gives BM higher energy resistance
- Artillery Strike - Remove stat requirement
- Bring it in line with other multis
- Improve Fireball & Plasma Bolt
- Slightly weaker early levels, scales much better mid-high levels
- Slightly reduce passive Armor skills’ defense/resistance
- Evens out scaling per skill level, make it slightly less powerful
- TLM - Replace Maul with Stun Grenade
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.4.1b - Thursday, December 22
- Frysteland War Continued
- As with most new features, bugs are inevitable. We’ll be fixing a few things for this next update- the War schedule will be synchronized with the daily events from here on out, and many people were finding it more difficult to defeat the Yetis than the Krampus, so we’ll be balancing out the War NPCs. The Cryostaff and Kringlebot will both be returning to Hank, and Frostbane is being set to Permanent Rare.
- New Threads
- This week, we’ll also be introducing two new armors for purchase, the Frost Reaper armor for Legion players and the Beast Rider armor for Exile players. Equipping this armor increases your side’s War Points as you battle. They will also have another potent effect that we will announce as development progresses.
- Moar War!
- We’re adding THREE new War Ranks to bridge the large gaps between ranks, which should make ranking up a little bit easier for all players. Some of you may notice that you have a different rank that you had before, but that will be a good thing since some ranks are easier to obtain than before. We have also readjusted the rating points that the higher-end achievements award.
- NPC Improvements
- Since many were having trouble getting those Krampuses and Yetis to cough up War Bombs, we are increasing the drop rate for all NPCs, with the stronger NPCs offering a significantly higher chance to drop. We’re also implementing an Ice Gem drop that can be exchanged for credits, with more valuable Gems being dropped by higher level War NPCs.
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.4.1a - Tuesday, December 17
- The War for Frysteland
- We’ve been slowly introducing players to Delta V’s Frozen Northlands- Frysteland- and its inhabitants the Krampus. Now, you’ll recall that the Krampus have a long tradition of Beast Riding, making them uniquely able to harness the power of the corrupted Yetis threatening Legion and Exile targets alike. If only you could get them on your side…
- Since the war requires alignment, Factions will become important for proving your loyalty. To that end, faction creation costs are getting slashed so even more players will be able to support the cause!
- In addition to the direct storyline quests (written by yours truly, so blame me if there are quest types you don’t like), defeating certain enemies will add points to your side’s War Leaderboard. Those loyal to the Legion should defeat Krampuses, and Exiles should defeat Yetis and Arctic Guards for added support. Completing quests for either alignment will earn you BIG points toward your cause!
- Checking your progress will be a snap, with leaderboards at both the Legion Outpost and the Krampus Village displaying the “Most Wanted” list of those players who contribute the most toward the war, and you can earn the “Most Wanted” Achievement!
- War Ranks
- When you join the war, you’ll start out as a Frysteland War Grunt, but you’ll be able to rise through the ranks to become a Frysteland War General!
- You’ll be able to earn a variety of achievements, including the elusive Frysteland War Hero badge (renamed from Most Wanted), or the Bombadier achievement!
- You can check out your personal contribution at any time by visiting your alignment's War Hero board. This will give you your own personal score so you can see how you stack up against your friends! This time more than ever, the fate of Frysteland and Delta V hang in the balance!
- Everybody look under your seat...
- As a special present for all of our players, everybody is getting 10 FREE inventory spaces! You get inventory! And you get inventory! Everybody gets 10 inventory spaces!
- We will still be working on ways to conserve inventory space, don’t worry. But this might tide players over for a little while. For those who just can't wait to stockpile rares, we're raising the inventory cap to 120 items!
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.4.1 - Friday, December 2
- Frosty Destruction!
- This week, the 11/11/11 cheevos, missions, and Nightwraith’s personal items will be going seasonal rare. This will also be the final week we will be offering the Delta set in the 10K varium package. What is its replacement? Keep reading!
- The Christmas/Winter seasonal house items will be returning in this update as well.
- Frysteland
- The mountainous continent to the North of the main continent of Delta V was called The Northlands by the colonists to the planet, but the indigenous people already had a name for it- Frysteland. Today, there area remains a strategic location for both Exile and Legion interests, and players will be able to ally with some famous faces in this battle.
- One familiar face players will see in Frysteland will be jolly baker and weapons dealer Hank! Hank and Valestra prefer to spend the holiday season together in their Winter Abode, far from the stresses of city life, where Hank can bake Juloffenblotten cookies and Valestra can make delicious hot chocolate, and afterwards cozy by the fire, watching the yetis hunting rabbits outside. However, Hank’s gotten word that Arctic Commander Edgar Boothe is planning something big this Juloffenblotten... and it’s not a lute berry pudding.
- Also making the journey from Fortune City to the Frozen Northlands is Alydriah Descarl. Since she’d begun to corrupt the wildlife, Descarl has planned to use these more powerful and violent animals to destroy anyone- human or otherwise- who would stand in her way.
- Although this week is just an introduction to the storyline, we hope to make this future releases a full-fledged Winter event the likes of which you have never seen! The idea is that players will be able to choose alignment specific quests to determine the outcome of the storyline!
- What is this? Quests based on alignment? Yes! Members of both the Exiles and Legion will battle each other, as well as the corrupted Yetis to win over the allegiance of the Krampus people.
- New Promo?
- With the Delta Weapons going rare, they will be replaced with the Frost Destroyer mutating weapon AND the Frost Slayer broadsword. These beautiful and powerful mutating weapons will be available with the $50 10K varium package starting this Friday!
- This set of amazing weapons will come with the ability called Frostbite, which is a chance to cause your opponent to "leak" energy for 3 turns. If you have Baby Yeti and one of the new Frost Destroyer or Frost Slayer weapons equipped, your Yeti will also gain this ability!
- En Espanol!
- We've had Portuguese support for EpicDuel for a few weeks now and it has really helped us refine the localization system. Now, we're ready to expand to new languages. Starting this Friday, EpicDuel will also have support for Spanish language in game!
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.4.0e - Thursday, November 24
- The Krampus Cometh
- If you follow our Fearless Leader Titan on Twitter, you saw he spilled the beans on the name of EpicDuel’s Winter Celebration: Juloffenblotten! Citizens all over Delta V are preparing for the holiday filled with joy and cheer, and the Krampus traders will be trekking southward from their northern mountain homes to sell their wares to Delta V’s citizens, including the adorable baby yeti pet!
- I want to clear up some confusion about the name of the celebration. I am speaking not of the origin in-world, but my creative process. The term “Juloffenblotten” is Scandinavian in origin- the word itself comes from “Julofferfest” which refers to the Yuletide celebration, and “blot” (pronounced like “bloat”) which is a Swedish word referring to a solemn and significant celebration or feast. Nightwraith and I used Scandinavian references while brainstorming the celebration- the Krampus being one example- and we wanted a name that distinguishes that EpicDuel does not take place in the AQW in-game universe. Delta V is not Lore, and her citizens do not celebrate Frostval. There was some speculation that the name was in reference to something with extremely horrific implications, and I can assure you that this is not the case.
- Baby Yeti
- I already mentioned that the Baby Yeti will be sold by Krampus traders after Wednesday's release. He will work in battle as a bot, taking up that slot in your inventory (although if I chew on Titan’s ankles enough, he MIGHT eventually be convinced that the Baby Yeti needs to follow you around in-world as well), and his special attack will be particularly effective against support builds. See, this baby Yeti is teething, and needs to chew on something to soothe his pained gums. The most convenient thing is, of course, your opponent’s bazooka.
- The baby yeti will have a varium cost of 1900 Varium, with an as-of-yet undetermined credit price.
- However, the baby yeti will not be the only bot offered during the Yule season, so keep watching this space for more information!
- Words, Words, Words
- We’ve become aware of several bugs and we’ll be rolling out fixes for these issues, such as the war kills leaderboard reading “fame” instead of “war kills”. We’ll be continuing to translate EpicDuel into Portuguese and we hope to have the game translated into Spanish shortly after Thanksgiving.
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.4.0c/d - Friday, November 11
- One One One One One One
- So have you figured out what’s so special about this Friday? Besides that it’s all 11’s? Why, it’s Nightwraith’s birthday, of course! Our wonderful creative lead Nightwraith is older than he’s ever been, and he’s celebrating it with you! Some of the denizens of Delta V- the ElectroHazard, Hank, Charfade, Big Tuna and Cinderella, to be exact- have teamed up to throw our fearless creative leader a surprise party! Between mischievous squidlings running off with his presents, a backlog of orders of exactly 11 slices of cake and other misadventures, battling Nightwraith will give players an 11% chance of a dropped item, which unlocks Nightwraith’s personal stash!
- Portuguese Support
- You may have seen that part of the delay of the last update involved incorporating support for Portuguese into EpicDuel as a step towards making our game friendlier for our International Player Community. Titan and Hudelf will be working on translation, localization, and special characters. The system they are building is especially exciting because it will make adding additional languages in the future very easy, and provide a template for localizing the other AE games! Hopefully we won’t lose visuals on our text. Again. D:
- New Identity
- I'd also like to make a quick announcement that our Mod and tester formerly known as Rainaka, is now known officially as Lycus! His green name should update by the new release!
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.4.0b - Monday, November 7
- Low-Level Love
- As awesome and dedicated as our players at or near the level cap are, the vast majority of our players are in the lower levels, so to give new players a more dynamic EpicDuel experience, Charfade’s made a whole arsenal of low-level bazookas for your dueling pleasure! And I’ve written a bunch of new quests- available from Exile Soldier, Habuki, Steve 2.0, Junker 2.0, and ConductorBot- that should help lower-level players get their duel on! If you’re inexperienced, you cannot pass up these sweet rewards!
- High-level? We’ll have some nice stuff for you too, especially with our next minievent. Although I suppose you could do these missions as well, there’s certainly nobody stopping you. And if there was, it would be the level 3 guards.
- Remember, Remember...
- Bonus! Celebrate Guy Fawkes Day a day early with these festive, but sinister masks! "Remember, remember, the fifth of November, Gunpowder Treason and Plot"
- Harvest Wrap-Up
- Harvest Wrap-Up, Harvest Wrap-Up! Let’s finish our Autumn cheer, ‘cause soon Winter will be here!
- Harvest gear, quests, etc. will be available until 11/11/11- what’s so important about that day, you ask? Besides the fact that it’s made entirely of elevens,
- I’m not sure what makes your face implode, but that’s how this is gonna work.
- We’ll be working on a new, experimental feature coming soon to EpicDuel in the coming weeks. I’ll be working very closely with Nythera for this, and I’m actually not too sure how it’ll work yet, so watch this space as we hammer out the kinks!
- Winter Preview
- As we’re leaving the Harvest behind, we’re all ecstatic to get started working on the next big holiday. Even in the Dead of Winter, Citizens of Delta V are still able to find reasons to celebrate, and Players will have much to celebrate, since we’ll be able to have full quest chains for this event!
- We’ll also be introducing players to new people and a new (to the Players) world. During this event, you’ll be introduced to new allies (and new enemies!) and have a chance to permanently affect the planet’s balance by your actions!
- If you follow Nightwraith on Twitter, you’ve been seeing some of his concepts for the new enemies you’ll be facing- the SnowHazards and Frostbiters. The SnowHazards are large and keep warm underneath their thick layers of soft, thick fur, while the Frostbiters are slender and well adapted to navigating the bitter cold ice floes. Both of these creatures were created much like the Hazards- wild creatures were corrupted by Legion scientists, and overtook the wild populations within a few generations. You’ll be called upon to challenge these horrifying Beasts soon enough.
- It’s truly incredible to be making something that inspires so much creativity, and seeing the characters you imagined come to life. Nightwraith just showed me his sketches for some of the characters I’d created, and it’s a truly unbelievable and unique experience to see how he’s interpreted my words and brought them to life.
- We’ve also been working on a special gift for the players for this release, but this is one we’ll keep tight under wraps!
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.4.0a - Friday, October 28
- A Harvest of Gear
- So, getting this out of the way first, as it seems the only question anyone has asked me about the Harvest is when the Harvest Armors are being released. Well, Nightwraith is working hard to get out several armors for you. Keep watching this space for previews!
- Continued Retrain Improvements
- While the retrain improvements were certainly a giant step up from the previous iteration of the feature, there remain some issues. For one thing, we’re addressing the issue with your weapons being unequipped from your character on retrain. Following the adjustment, the system will be able to intelligently know for which items you meet the requirements.
- More Snorkness!
- If you’ve been working on the Ooky Spooky mission, you may have noticed that Snork has gotten a makeover lately. His frightening visage is reminiscent of the Indigenous War God, and in homage to his patron, Snork will soon be able to engage players in battle.
- There may be other secret rewards in this or future Harvest updates, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for any other treats!
- Rumor has it that defeating Snork in battle gives you a chance to win a special prize perfect for the occasion. I wonder what it could be! :3
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.4.0 - Thursday, October 20
- Raise the Roof
- The level cap is finally being raised to level 34! We delayed the raise due to popular demand, and now we are raising the cap due to equally popular demand! Another added bonus to raising the level cap is that your Delta gear will become slightly more powerful, because it is technically level 34 gear! Once you reach the cap, all the Delta weapons will gain an extra point of damage!
- The quest from Snork will give players some incentive to battle, battle, battle! We did alter that quest due to technological limitations. Players can only complete the quest once, but the special weapon drop (with stats comparable to a premium weapon at the same level, so everyone can use it) will be guaranteed.
- Harvest Weapons
- We are releasing two limited-time Harvest mutating weapons, the Spectral Reaper and the Harvest Reaper. These powerful weapons change class with you! The Spectral Reaper features an energy club, energy blades, and a physical staff, while the Harvest Reaper can become physical blades, a physical club, or an energy staff.
- In the weeks to come, we also have more Snorkness planned, a special event in early November (our writer better get on that! oh wait...) and more!

- Fall Cleaning
- Hi there EpicDuelists! Happy First Day of Fall! The days here are getting colder, and it’s time to knit tiny hamster sweaters for the server hamsters! I hope you all enjoyed the Talk Like a Pirate Day weapons update on Monday. If you haven't picked up the new items from Big Tuna in the West Naval Yard, you'd better hurry! There's no telling how much longer they'll be there! Here’s what’s in store for you for the recent update:
- Getting to know Hank
- Most citizens of Fortune City have come across this jolly fellow. Long before the War, a young Hank Acker had a dream, to become the greatest culinary artist the galaxy had ever known. He attended the most elite culinary schools, became a master patissier, and eventually traveled to Delta V. Never one to back away from a challenge, he designed and built his own kitchen- a custom oven built from an old drill engine, a rotary saw bread slicer, a liquid nitrogen deep freeze for ice cream. He set up the front of a building as a shop, where he could sell freshly-baked bread, ice cream and candies, hot coffee or tea, and of course the most wonderful selection of expertly-crafted pastries... all at a reasonable price! Baking is, of course, not without his dangers. Hank lost his eye when a subterranean mining vehicle caused an earthquake near the shop, causing the melted sugar threads Hank was spinning to decorate a croquembouche to fly into his face. After losing his leg in a horrible baking accident involving a pain au chocolat, Bienenstitch, and a whole lot of marzipan, he hired a local girl- Anya- to take over the front of the house, and occasionally summon medical care.
- After the Exile, at Anya’s insistence, Hank found himself trading in his porkpies, fairy cakes, and chocolate babkas for swords, clubs, and guns. But still, he is able to sell cakes to Exiles- which has allowed him to make some renovations to the storefront, and dreams of a day when he can brush the dust off of his whisk and choux bag.
- New Ranks!
- It seems like only yesterday we were amazed that one of our players had accumulated 5,000 wins. Now we’ve had to add new ranks to recognize the sheer amount of wins some of you guys have! What are they? Well, until you reach it, it’s a mystery!
- Fixy Stuff
- We’re rolling out with a few bug fixes. For example- as awesome as it was, supercharge will no longer do the Haduoken gesture, but the fireball will come out of the weapon as intended. We've also fixed many leaderboard related bugs that were introduced in the last update.
- Leaderboards
- To clear up some confusion from the last update. The All-Time leaderboards are now only update once per day. This was not done to make you mad, but because the database queries to update the leaderboards were extremely intense and alone responsible for most of the lag. The Daily Leaderboards update every 3 minutes as per usual.
- But wait! There’s more!
- We’re restocking Charfade's Inventory! Visit Charfade in Fortune City to grab them while you can.
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.3.1e/f
- Talk Like a Pirate Day!
- Ahoy there, you Bilge rats, man Jacks and Stowaways! It be your Master-at-arms, Cinderella. Hold fast and read well this here flag hoist, to avoid bein’ sent to Davy Jones’ Locker.
- Yarr, it be Talk Like a Pirate Day, and for the first time, we’re celebrating here on Delta V. Let your colors fly with the Talk Like a Pirate Day achievement, send your enemies across the bar with new Pirate-themed weapons, and look the part with new nautical styles! If you're really feeling saucy, you'll also notice the new pirate-themed Faction flags to create a Jolly Roger of your choosing!
- And of course, you’ll need to talk like a pirate on September 19th, or you might have to meet with the Captain’s Daughter!
- (For future reference, the Captain’s Daughter is another name for a Cat of Nine Tails, an instrument of punishment.)
- Pirate Booty *Update*!
- In order to make enough epic weapons for everyone, Varium and non-Varium alike, we're taking a bit more time to finalize and test the TLaPD weapons. Look for them to drop at BigTuna's shop in the West Naval Yard around the actual Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19).
- Pirate Cheevo!
- Stop by a VendBot anywhere on Delta V to pick up the TLaPD achievement for 1500 Battle Tokens!
- Farewell to Dragon Weapons
- Nightwraith was nice enough to extend the length of time the Dragon weapons were in the shop. However, it’s time to send them down to Davy Jones’ Locker until next year!
- Everyone who should have received the Dragon Master achievement but was not awarded it should have already received it by now. Email Nightwraith@Battleon.com if you're still having an issue!
- Making the Lag Beast Walk the Plank!
- Titan and his new assistant have been working feverishly all week to determine the source of the recent lag woes in EpicDuel, which have caused skipped turns and other bizarre and annoying bugs. Are two heads really better than one? We'll find out soon enough! Literally ever action in the game have been examined to address the problem, which means drastic changes abound through the engine. If you notice any new bugs crop up, please report them in the forums!
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.3.1d - Thursday, September 8th
- Interface Changes
- You may have noticed that some things look different in game- for example the home editor buttons got a lot more shiny (oooh... shiny!). This is reflective of general changes to the interface system. We’ve been improving the way that the buttons and interfaces in EpicDuel work in order to make them more streamlined. Another example is the Inventory screens, which were improved over the weekend.
- Balance Changes
- Mages should find that their builds are more versatile now, and sword-wielding mages no longer have such a big percentage of their skill trees blocked off. Plasma Rain and Bludgeon no longer require staffs. This should prove to be a significant buff to the mage classes.
- Back to the Cave!
- Since DragonCon is over, the Draconic weapons will be leaving the game! We left them in a little while longer, since there was a delay in the last update (we got delayed last time, but we’re early this week? MADNESS!). The Dragon and Back to School weapons will remain.
- Everyone who purchased a weapon qualifying them for a Dragon Master achievement will also receive this valuable achievement!
- Performance Updates
- Titan’s still on the warpath against junk code and finding ways to make the Server Hamsters less lethargic, so players should experience a more streamlined performance (although yelling “FIX THE LAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGG” at me is still unlikely to make the server hamsters move faster. They’re kind of contrary like that.)
- Welcome Hudelf!
- I’d like to take this opportunity to formally welcome Hudelf to the EpicDuel Staff! Hudelf is joining our little team as a programmer. Let’s all wish him a warm welcome and a smooth transition! Remember, he's still an apprentice, but he's learning quickly the arts of code sorcery from Titan!

EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.3.1b - Friday, September 2nd
- Dragon Duds
- To celebrate DragonCon, the Dragon Weapons are returning to Delta V, along with two new mutating weapons (by which I mean they change class with you, not that they cause point changes in your DNA): the Draconic Destroyer and the Draconic Devastator. These powerful weapons will be limited quantity/time seasonal rares. These items will last as long as Dragon-Con, but after the con period is over (midnight on Tuesday, September 6), the shop quantity will reset to 0.
- We will also be returning the back-to-school items, and just like last year these, as well as the Dragon items, will be available from Slayer in The Barrens (Barrens Outpost).
- There will also be new Varium and credit-only Dragon styles available from Steve 2.0 in Fortune City or Steve 1.0 in Central Station.
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.3.1a - Saturday, August 27th
- Titan vs. Adobe
- After a struggle spanning many days, from the darkest cavern, to the highest peak, until at last, Titan threw down his enemy and smote its ruin on the mountainside! That is to say, Titan and our wonderful crew of testers made it known to the software behemoth that their latest "update" was ruining performance in EpicDuel (and a few other Flash-based MMOs) so they essentially released an update just for us! I'd call that a WIN. Get the latest version of FlashPlayer here! Thanks Adobe!
- We've also been making some important changes to the backend of the game -- changes we can't go live with until they are completely. Because of this, we won't be releasing until later tonight.
- Localization
- As a byproduct of the efforts to optimize EpicDuel and streamline performance, Titan has been replacing all the interface components in the game. This paves the way for another very important feature going forward: localization. Soon* EpicDuel will be available in multiple languages, starting with Portuguese. It's a good thing we don't have as many quests as the other AE games, or that task would be monumental!
- *Soon as in sometime in the future that may or may not be near at all we don't really know
- Ye Olde Fortune City
- Tonight, you will be introduced to the newest area of Delta V, or is it a sub-area? In any case, Old Fortune City, the current headquarters for the Exiles is accessible through the staircase in the back of Hank's in Fortune City. All the new equipment will be there, so you'll want to hurry if you want to be the first to check it out!
- New Gear!
- Of course, we didn't forget all the lovely implements of destruction we showed you last week! They're still coming, and thankfully, there's plenty for Varium and non-Varium players! You might also check out the Limited Quantity Shops. Just sayin'.
- A New Champion Rises
- We've been teasing at a new character to be introduced to EpicDuel since the early Delta previews. We're finally ready to drop him in game, but not quite ready to reveal his true identity. Some of you may already have figured it out, but the explanation will shock you!
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.3.1 - Wednesday, August 17th
- Balance Breakdown, and your normally-scheduled update
- Hi there EpicDuelists. By now you’ve heard about the way that the latest version of Adobe Flash forced us to delay the update by a few days. We should release later today (Tuesday) or early tomorrow (Wednesday) assuming a bit of code Titan is currently working on works the way it should. Again, we sincerely apologize for the delay. Working in the Flash environment means that we have to constantly adapt to a changing language, and sometimes updates to Flash cause problems for us, and we’re not always able to predict what a new update is going to bring.
- Break it Down
- Here’s the deal on the new skill scaling. Fixed-damage skills (eg Fireball, Plasma Bolt, etc) will be calculated with a level 1 base damage, the stat factor, and either an Improve value after level 20 or a Reduce value before level 20, so essentially lower levels (where fixed-damage skills tend to be overpowered) will see a reduction in effectiveness. At higher levels, these skills will essentially receive a buff. This should really improve things for caster mages.
- The follow skills now have their base damage scaled by level: Field Medic, Plasma Bolt, Fireball, Overload, Plasma Rain, Super Charge, Artillery Strike, Multi-Shot, Surgical Strike, Super Charge, Bunker Buster, Plasma Cannon, Stun Grenade, Plasma Grenade, EMP Grenade, Technician, Field Commander, Reflex Boost, Malfunction, Intimidate, Smoke Screen, Defense Matrix, Blood Shield, Hybrid Armor, Assimilation, and Toxic Grenade.
- Percent based skills (Double Strike, Berzerker, Massacre and Bludgeon) will work differently than they had previously. How it works right now is that they’re calculated by base damage + weapon damage - [defense/resistance]) x % bonus = your damage. After this update, it will look more like Deadly Aim, in that your damage = (base damage + (weapon damage x % bonus))- [defense/resistance]. This should be a buff for builds that do not rely entirely on strength, but players will insane amounts of strength should see a slight reduction in damage. The goal was to encourage deeper investment in skills that scale too well with only one point of investment. The percents for all of the skills affected by this change have been adjusted.
- The way robots work has also been changed. Using either the robot’s special attack or the robot’s attack will cause both options to go into cooldown. The cooldown is staying at 3, however, to keep bots from being the "instant kill" weapon they have been in the past. The Gamma bot will also receive a small damage buff (+1 for a new range of 12-16 damage) to help compensate for the extended cooldown.
- Assault Bot's special now reduces Curse.
- Maximum block chance reduced to 40% (down from 45%). Shadow Arts can increase block chance up to 50%.
- Critical Strikes now ignore 50% of defenses (down from 75%). Maximum critical strike chance is now 20% and you now have +1% chance to critical strike for every 7 support over your opponent. Minimum crit chance reduced to 1% and base crit chance is now 4%.
- Other Skill Changes:
- Multi-Shot increases damage per 4 Dexterity (down from per 5 Dex)
- Plasma Rain increases damage per 4 Technology (down from per 5 Tech)
- Static Charge's energy restore effect is no longer affected by defenses. It now uses 80% of your damage BEFORE defenses when calculating the percent energy restored. The percent on Static Charge has been reduced by 5%.
- Static Charge will now work by taking 80% of your combined base damage from strength and primary weapon damage. That will be the number that is considered for the energy restore.
- The actual damage you do with Static Charge is still effected by defense or resistance and is 100% of primary damage (same as Strike).
- Weapon Mutation
- Another obscure feature of this release is a change to the way items that switch classes (Founder Armor and Beta Gear) now work. They have been recoded to work dynamically, meaning faster performance for the database, and the ability for us to add class changing items in the future! This change involved standardizing the base states of these weapons, so you may notice a slight difference in the stat configuration. Your enhancements, however, will remain the same regardless of class.
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.3.0d/e
- The Continuing Story of Four Young Adults’ Continuing Descent into Madness
- Hello there, EpicDuelists. Did you check out ArcAttack’s music in the AQW DoomWood Event? You might have caught me online during the event- I’m kind of a music nerd! But that doesn’t mean we’re ignoring this game! See what we’ve been up to in the past week!
- Pseudo-entomological Oddities
- You may have noticed we had a quick midweek update. In essence, the update was just to fix some bugs, and roll some performance updates. Titan has been on a coding rampage to fix all the old rickety systems in EpicDuel that have limited our forward progress. Do you know why all Varium hairstyles cost the same and why we haven't introduced new credit-only styles? Because the code/database structures wouldn't allow it! We've improved that to a point where now we'll be able to offer new credit-only styles, rare seasonal styles, and maybe even styles that you can keep forever!
- Also, as of this Friday we will be adding a restriction on sellback for the current promotional items, the Delta Destroyer set. Sellback will be restricted during the promotional period and reactivated once the item is no longer for sale in case you ever need to part with it to free up space. This will help protect players who somehow manage to lose control over their accounts (remember, kids! Keep your passwords safe!) and wake up one day to find their cherished promotional gear sold!
- In the coming weeks we hope to make even more progress that will allow us the flexibility to move forward with features like new bots, non-humanoid bosses, and dozens of small improvements that will make your EpicDuel experience more enjoyable.
- Limited-Quantity Shop coming Friday!
- We promised it was coming, and then we made you wait a bit. I apologize for that, but hopefully it will be worth the wait! The Tesla armor is unique in the sense that it’s not class-specific, but it is gender-specific. Yes, if you play as a female character and don't want to look like you overdressed for a snowball fight, you will be able to purchase and wear the Lady Tesla armor, the height of fashion on Delta V! We didn't release it sooner because making that work is not as easy as one might think! Also, we have made the Tesla head an optional style so you can show off your own mug if you so choose!
- *Update: We have reshuffled the stat bonuses based on player suggestions in the forums.
- We’re not sure how many of each gender/flavor we’ll be implementing at first (250 each, maybe?), but expect a restock next week (if they’ve sold out). Many players have felt discouraged by the randomness of our restocks of limited quantity items in the past, but this time we are defining the schedule in advance. You can purchase the Tesla armors from Naomi Page in Central Station after the release goes live this Friday evening.
- Balance Changes
- We haven’t released the balance changes yet, since there are some problems we had to fix recently, and the list of proposed changes presented by our balance team is long and complicated. I’m not sure if we’ll squeeze them in this week or not.
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.3.0c - Friday, July 22nd
- *Pro-Tip*
- EpicDuel's new URL will be http://epicduel.artix.com/play-now/
Redirects should be working shortly, but you may want to update your Bookmarks as well!
- NEW STUFF!
- It's time again for another round of armors. Shed your current battle-worn exterior and try something new! Nightwraith’s been working on a few new armors for the non-varium crowd, including the new City Guard Armor, the Imperial Tech Mage and the Exile Soldier Armor! Visit Naomi in Central Station to check them out!
- *Update* By popular request, we have made the armors a higher tier with more competative stats (with an appropriately increased price).
- What's in a Name?
- Is there a name you've wanted since you created your character but couldn't have it because some level 3 was sitting on it? Now may be your chance! With this update, we are clearing the database of thousands of names taken by inactive players! Is your dream name now available? Only one way to find out!
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.3.0b - Thursday, July 14th
- Update Update Update
- Time for another ninja update! You know what that mean? A lot of work that most people won't notice, but is essential for EpicDuel's continued growth and development. Here's a quick rundown of what we've done this week.
- Performance Improvements
- What makes this is a true ninja update is all the changes to EpicDuel's code. The Delta launch was extremely smooth, but the new features created a great deal of lag. As we continually ad more features, items, and classes, the database gets bogged down with more checks and requests than it can handle. At this point, digging through EpicDuel's code is like viewing a cross-section of the Earth's crust: as you dig deeper, you see some weeeeeird stuff, like fossils. EpicDuel is full of code Leopluradons. Titan has been working tirelessly to excavate...er update the code to allow EpicDuel to grow without imploding.
- Fortune City Improvements
- Continuing the improvements from Delta, Alydriah has renovated Valestra's, and several other screens around Fortune City. Fortune City is the oldest area in the game, so it felt good to revisit this popular region of Delta V.
- New Mission!
- Alydriah's Spire is draining the energy in Fortune City, leaving very little for the Science Facility to operate. Talk to Talia in the facility to help her out. I may have something to do with Alydriah's new crony, Administrator 11. His energy source may be the key to solving her crisis. Be warned, however, you'll need more than one warrior to take him down!
- Balance Changes
- Everyone's favorite part of a competitive, online PvP game! There's always a very strong reaction to balance adjustments, but please keep in mind that not every change needs to be a buff and not every "nerf" is because we dislike a specific class. After all, we wouldn't have built them if we didn't like them!
- Tactical Mercenary
- Frenzy now requires a Club and healing effect is slightly reduced.
- Toxic Grenade's Poison damage reduced by 2 to put it more on par with Venom Strike.
- Cyber Hunter
- Static Charge's effect increased by 5% at each level.
- Blood Mage
- Blood Mage's Assimilate replaced with Reflex Boost to provide them with a means to improve defense and blocking.
EpicDuel Delta Evolution 1.3.0/a - Wednesday, June 29th
- Delta Launch Detected
- After all this waiting (as our fans have made abundantly clear, it’s been a long wait) we’re finally releasing EpicDuel Delta. Sometime on Wednesday, June 29th (what time? When it’s ready o’clock) we will be rolling live with the next stage of EpicDuel’s evolution!
- Delta Gear
- As a special thanks to our players who upgrade during the Delta stage, purchasers of the Epic Varium Package AFTER THE DELTA RELEASE GOES LIVE will receive the Delta Destroyer Weapon Pack! This includes 4 beautiful, rare weapons: the Delta Destroyer itself- which can be used by any class, the piercing Delta Daggers, the crushing Delta Maul, and the powerful Delta Staff.
- But that's not all! The Delta Destroyer weapons also include an added bonus -- a 13% chance to apply a unique curse effect on an enemy each time the weapon is used. A cursed player is reduced in size and suffers a 20 point reduction in support!
- To commemorate this epic new development phase, everybody will be able to go to any Achievement vendor and pick up the FREE Delta Knight Achievement!
- New Classes
- These new classes should provide the player who loves a challenge with increased variety of skills and builds, and are available from any class change vendor. They will also be able to use the same weapons and armors as the three original classes.
- Blood Mage is the more aggressive and violent version of the Tech Mage. After being hardened by battle, some of the mages developed a lust for blood, and a balance between magic and melee. As a Blood Mage, you will be able to use the devastating Plasma Cannon, which includes a 25% chance for critical strike and ignores 20% of your opponent’s resistance. Blood Mages will be able to wear Tech Mage armor and use swords or staffs.
- Cyber Hunter is a technologically advanced hunter. Some members of Baelius’s Shadow Guard started experimenting with the advanced technology available on the main continent, integrating some of that technology into their battle repertoire. As a Cyber Hunter, you will be able to use the Plasma Grenade, which explodes on contact- injuring your enemy with a 30% chance to stun! Cyber Hunters will be able to wear Bounty Hunter armor and use swords or wristblades.
- Tactical Mercenary is an intellectual and crafty mercenary who uses tricks to defeat the enemy. When Baelius took over the planet, some of the more intellectual citizens were forced to work in the mines, and were able to create tactical weaponry from the mining tools- such as the Toxic Grenade which has an unblockable Damage Over Time effect. Tactical Mercenaries will be able to wear Mercenary armor and use swords or mauls.
- To make class changes more accessible for everyone, we have reduced the price of Class Change to 900 VARIUM! We are also introducing a credit-only class change option! By Grabthar's Hammer, what a savings!
- 2 vs 1 Boss Battles!
- You asked for it, we built it! This is probably the feature we’re most excited about, honestly, and we’re really proud of what we came up with! Titan’s rigged it up so that you’ll be able to pick your partner from your buddy list. You select your buddy, then click on the icon that looks like a little chain. This requests an “Ally Link” with your buddy, which will change the icon next to your buddy from a green dot (indicating online) to a little chain, allowing you to team up for boss battles!
- You may have noticed that the first 2v1 boss you’ll be able to defeat is the Armor Hazard. To celebrate her return to Fortune City, Alydriah Descarl “commissioned” a pet from Fortune City’s Biological Researchers- in particular, a promising young scientist working on insects named Ella St. Alban (better known as Cinderella). She created this abomination created by transfecting a fetal BioHazard with a virus carrying genes of her beloved Armour Beetles. Cinderella barely survived delivering the thing to Descarl, but teaming together, two seasoned warriors may be able to defeat it. Cinderella says that the only way it can be killed, however, is to remove BOTH it's hearts...
- New and Improved!
- The New: Several new faces are showing up in Delta V- or just coming out of hiding.
- Alydriah Descarl is the beautiful and cold architect of the destruction of Delta V. Her cruelty strikes fear into the hearts of even the most battle hardened soldiers of the Legion. Preferring public executions and flagellation to the soft punishments of the modern age, she earned a place at the head of the Legion. However, her main love is destruction, and her appetite for destruction leads her to fight not only against the surviving exiles, but her own former allies.
- The Imperial Tech Mage is one of Baelius’s creations. The Imperial Tech Mages were an elite force of warrior mages. They were famous for their resilience due to the fact that most of them did not survive the training process. After the Banishment- which imprisoned the vast majority of the population of Delta V between dimensions- some of the Imperial Tech Mages chose to follow Alydriah or Caden.
- The Mystery of Alydriah and the masked mages can’t compare to another individual lurking somewhere in the dark underbelly of Fortune City. Could this Mysterious Individual be the one really masterminding the Revolution? To discover his aims and secrets and how they effect EpicDuel, you’ll first have to find him...
- The Improved: Alydriah Descarl is not only a lover of destruction, but a lover of beauty. She’s commissioned the rebuilding of her beloved Fortune City. Players can expect a much more attractive visual experience.
